BIOGRAPHY
Austin-based quartet Motenko, who held a popular Wednesday residency at Stay Gold before the pandemic, excels at a vein of Americana music that combines elements of funk, pop and soul. Motenko was born from a collective of professional musicians. As roaming “hired guns” in the Austin music scene, the band brings together a wide range of inspirations and abilities with an all-important lack of ego. Along with bandleader Micah Motenko, the group features James Gwyn (drums), Josh Flowers (upright bass), and Cat Clemons III (guitar). The band takes obvious inspiration from 70’s funk and soul greats, with touches of New-Orleans second line and modern soul for broad appeal. Self-described as “groove-driven soul music”, Motenko’s emotion-forward blend will stir the spirit and invigorate rhythmic sensibilities.
