Evan Charles
Evan Charles works in grand archetypes and dichotomies, even as his songwriting grounds in a visceral restlessness and vivid imagery
Alternative; Indie
Solo
“Yet Charles’ philosophical underpinnings don’t deflect from the sharpness of his songwriting, from the opening Jayhawks jangle of “Remember When” to Dylanesque “Time To Move On,” an uplifting anthem from the bottom. Easy highway rhythms like “Heavy Rains Back Home” and lingering steel of “Shattered Love and Last Goodbyes” pace the setlist, while “Another Heartbreak Slipped Away” surprises almost soulfully – all as Charles croons between Tom Petty’s laid-back rock and Jay Farrar’s drawn-out loneliness. Touches of Altamesa’s sunburnt visions emerge in “The Return,” but the closing contemplation of “Horizon Line” best captures Charles’ current ethos, caught in the constant pull between the city and country, the road and home, love and loss.“ —The Austin Chronicle
BIOGRAPHY
Evan’s artistry can best be defined in one word: Passion! Evan has been playing the piano since he was 4 years old, and singing since the first time he heard his father singing opera. Evan would mimic the sounds he heard, and developed his singing voice very early on, with a deep chest resonance for a young child. His piano and singing won him several awards all throughout his early childhood years, until he was accepted to Florida State University on a Music Scholarship. After a year there, Evan grew restless and wanted to relocate to a city where there was a larger music scene, so he packed his bags and moved to Orlando Florida. Once there he started a band, and quickly gained traction, getting gigs at the world famous House of Blues, The Social, and radio play throughout the Central Florida area. During this time, Evan also graduated with honors from the University of Central Florida, with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Marketing, and a Minor in Digital Media. Evan also earned an associates in Science degree from Valencia College in Music and Sound Technology.
